CAPE'S ARTIST IN THE CLASSROOM PACKAGE
CAPE's philosophy is that teaching artists' residencies are most effective when combined with teacher professional development, and when the artists' instruction is aligned and combined with in-school curriculum. CAPE's Artist in the Classroom Package includes all of these components, with options for additional services as the program progresses.

COMPONENTS OF THE PROGRAM
1. Planning Meeting
Senior members of the CAPE staff will meet with your program team to develop the goals and strategies for your arts partnership. Two 2-hour meetings.

2. Professional Development
The CAPE Artist in the Classroom packages includes one 3-hour workshop for your school faculty, artist partners, administrators, and parents (up to 30 participants). This workshop will introduce your arts partnership to CAPE's highly successful approach to arts integration. Since 1993, CAPE has guided teachers and artists into deeper levels of arts integration that result in authentic investigations of academic subjects, while at the same time creating exciting, innovative works of art. During this session, participants will view past examples of CAPE student/teacher/artist work in arts integration, and go through a "how-to" on planning arts-integrated curriculum.

3. Artist Residency Classroom and Planning Sessions with Artist Partner
10 classroom sessions total, usually 45 minutes each, with 10 sessions in one classroom or 5 sessions in two classrooms;

4 hours of planning sessions with teachers;

one 2-hour follow-up meeting at the conclusion of the residency with the artist, teacher, CAPE staff and school administration team, encouraging enthusiastic involvement and commitment from students.
Your school will be able to choose from CAPE's roster of experienced teaching artists in order to plan a residency that addresses the needs of your students. All CAPE teaching artists have extensive experience collaborating with teachers. At initial planning sessions, teachers and artists will work together, looking at student needs, academic goals, and exciting curricular themes, lay out an effective classroom unit where sessions accomplish the desired curriculum goals in both the art form and the academic subject. During those classroom sessions, the CAPE artists and the teacher form a dynamic arts integration team.

Total Cost for the Artist in the Classroom Package: $3,000 plus classroom art making supplies.
