Partnerships between teachers and artists help redefine everyone's roles, and open up new opportunities and roles for parents.
Many CAPE parents have become leaders in their school's arts education partnerships. Parents are crucial advocates for arts integration in schools. We hope that this web site will be useful to you in making the case at your school.

Examples of CAPE Parent Involvement:
  • Sheila Schultz is a Partnership Coordinator at Hawthorne Elementary.
  • Pete Leki and Victoria Mendoza are Project Coordinators for the SCALE Project at Waters Elementary.
  • Parents at New Field Elementary, drawing on their diverse cultural histories, created mosaics and banners for the school.
  • Maria Velasquez is a parent coordinator at Telpochcalli
  • Architect Andrew Wong is a Teaching Artist at Hawthorne Elementary and Northside College Preparatory High School.
  • Families at Waters Elementary developed the school's community garden, complete with designer birdhouses, and created a sculpture park and mosaic bench representing family migration stories
  • Textile Artist Kay Dawson is a Workshop Presenter for the CAPE Design Seminar.
  • Photographer Mary Peasley documented the Great Migration Project at Agassiz Elementary.
  • Parents participated in professional development courses at King Elementary in collaboration with their children's teachers.
