After School Program (SCALE)
Supporting Communities through Arts Learning Environments (SCALE)
Currently operating in six schools, the SCALE after school program connects in-school curriculum with after-school arts activities through arts integration with core curriculum subject areas. The after-school programs focus on improving students’ academic achievement, supporting families in their efforts to nurture children’s growth and development, and demonstrating excellence in arts learning. CAPE has developed a brand new model for connecting after-school programming to in-school curriculum development.
SCALE is a group collaboration of multiple partners, with each bringing their own expertise to the table. CAPE works with partners that include MPAACT Afrikan Centered Theater, Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, SGA Youth and Family Services, and Telpochcalli Community Education Project.
The program is made possible by a grant from the Illinois State Board of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program.
